Weekend Links 12/19/14

Happy Friday everyone! Hope everyone has an exciting weekend planned, as this is last one before Chrismtas, which means party overload I’m sure. I’ve got our work holiday party at The Berghoff tonight (can’t wait for some of their rootbeer!) and then we’re heading up north for a birthday party.

We’d planned on having a holiday potluck tomorrow night at our place, but a couple people couldn’t make it and there was some unavoidable winter sickness and we just thought it better to postpone. So now we’ve got a post holiday holiday party to look forward to! Sometimes those are even better because the holiday stress is past us.

Anyway, let’s get to it, your weekend links are here. Spoiler alert: There’s nothing on here about Serial because I haven’t listened to the entire finale yet. I’ve still got about 25 minutes to go and I’m having to avoid social media to dodge any information. But I’ve got some other good stuff for ya, promise! Have a great weekend everyone, don’t drink too much eggnog!

This recipe for Oreo treats, they’re like rice crispy treats only with Oreos. Max and I made a few batches last night to take in for office holiday parties, I even made a version with birthday cake Oreos. Yeah.

Speaking of sweets, take a look at this mouth-watering round up of cinnamon rolls 10 ways over on Design Crush. I die for cinnamon rolls people, especially on a Saturday morning in December. And while we were at Target buying oreos, the cinnamon rolls were 3 for $5 sooooo…you know what’s happening tomorrow morning at our place.

An interesting article about why creative people flourish in clutter. As long as I’m technically flourishing, I’m cool with not having to clean my room.

This is a suuuuper important one – the list for 2015 Chicago Restaurant Week is out and you can start booking, so jump on it quick before all the good tables get taken!

Kiiiiind of want to try this free 30 day trial of SaltedTV, online cooking classes taught by acclaimed master chefs from across the country. They range from the very basics (like knife skills)  to the very complex (like how to break down a goat), and cover every subject under the sun. Plus it’s only $10/mo. Gilt also has an offer right now. Food Network, time to step your game up.

Bored at work? Not as bored at these guys over at Squarespace were. (Mail….kimp?)

Stumbled upon (can you stumble on the internet?) this adorable little letterpress shop called 1canoe2. I’m a sucker for some pretty hand lettering, so I’m basically in love.

I bet you could still order this necklace for me for Christmas if you really wanted to. I really want you to.

This is a beautiful collection of gorgeous photos taken by drone photographers from all over the world. Our planet is pretty awesome.

Huge news! Instagram announced the release of five new filters this week. First time they’ve given us new picture changing magic in about two years, so this is exciting stuff for instafreaks like myself.

Welcome to my new favorite single, Wasted Love by Matt McAndrew (and Adam Levine I guess?). Is anyone else still raging about The Voice finale? It was a sham I tell ya, a sham! Regardless of the outcome, I still love this song. And Matt. And Adam.

Woooo weekend. This was my first full week in awhile, but it really wasn’t too bad. I’ve transitioned roles at work which I’m really excited about, good to be working with my old team again. I can’t believe in January I’ll have been at the same company for 4 years. Crazy how time flies. Just like this week did, and now the weekend is here!

We’ve got a wedding Saturday that I’m super pumped about. The groom is a lifelong friend since elementary school. I got in trouble literally in kindergarten for taking my backpack off and whipping it at him. My bad? And the bride is a small, cute and fun galpal I’ve known since freshman year of high school. Basically it’s going to be a 10 year high school reunion two years early. And I for one, cannot wait! Just hope the rain stays away since it’s an outdoor ceremony, everyone keep your fingers crossed for them and happy Bellcourt wedding weekend! Prepare for a lot of Instas! And here are your links!

Looking for a new lunch spot in the city? Here’s a list of some brand spankin new places, hopefully some are close to your office.

We’re not all the sharpest tools in the shed, but no one needs to know that, heed this list of ways to look smart during meetings. People will think you’re a genius by lunchtime!

Um…this is probably the best thing ever. Jk, it snot. But really, it is.

First of all, I just had my first actual look at Tinder last weekend when my cousin was in town and trying to holler at some ladies. I took it upon myself to also peruse some ladies. It was fun. Anyway, Dave Franco and Conan played on Tinder and it’s actually pretty hilarious. And Dave Franco is hot, just putting it out there.

Tina Fey and Rachel Dratch had a show at Second City in the 90’s and someone uploaded a terrible quality version from a VHS  to the internet. Hallelujah!

I do not care about the 50 Shades of Grey trailer. That’s all I have to say about that.

You may have seen Airbnb’s new logo. But have you seen all the other things within it? It seems they’ve forgotten a cat butt.

In case you were wonder what the hell happened to checking in on FourSquare, they have a new app called Swarm, and the decision to break into two apps may not have been the best one.

I love a good mojito. And I love a fresh mango. And cilantro. Put em all together and BAM!, party in your mouth. And yes, I’m Emeril Lagasse.

Are you also maybe wondering why it’s so hard to get seated at the places you’re trying to check in at? The answer is probably too many of us are checking in, obvs!  Well that’s not exactly the reason, but it’s close, take a look.

Not a fan of cutting fruit on the same cutting board as you cut your meat? Problem solved with this super cute color coded cutting board DIY tutorial.

I’ve been throwing around the idea of getting a tiny little tattoo, but until I figure out what I want, this will do.

Oh, and lastly, this. (questionable NSFW, just say it’s research.)

Friday, Friday, gotta get down on Friday! This week flew by. Maybe it was because I’m transitioning roles at work or just because the weekend finally realized it’s better than the actual work week and tried to get her as soon as possible, I’ll never know. What I do know is that I have absolutely nothing planned this weekend, which means I’d better take advantage since I don’t think I have another free weekend for like, 6 weeks. #woof  I also find out if I’m getting the apartment I looked at on Monday. This would be my 4th place in 4 years, I’m really just becoming a neighborhood hopper, trying to live in all of ’em before I’m forced to the suburbs by my spawn. This one’s right on the edge or Wicker, so fingers crossed we get it! Hope you all have a fun and productive weekend, looks like the weather’s going to be perfect!

Here’s an awesome list of unconventional ways to store your beauty products – I love number 15!

The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is here! Best prices of the year! I want so many things that post will have to wait until next week, but you should take a look here for everyone else’s needs and wants on Pinterest because things are gonna go fast!

Malaysia Air has had a rough past few months, read up on exactly what’s going on, this is gonna be a big issue.

Tired of squatting when you gotta pee in those festival portopotties? Stand up!

And now feel free to  read about what a certain American Pie star had to say about the crash via twitter. Spoiler: it ain’t good! Don’t these celebrities get that what they say is out there for the entire world!?

Bravo Colbie! In her new video for “Try” she’s going au natural along with a lot of other pretty ladies and I for one love it. I really think it’s a great message for young girls. And older girls too!

This weekend, give this watercolor napkin tutorial a try, I think I may, they’re so cute!

Been trying to master that messy wave look but hair isn’t quite long enough? Your solve’s right here!

When I turned on the ESPY’s on Wednesday, I wasn’t really expecting to be moved. But I was, twice. Michael Sam’s story really did bring me to tears (here’s his acceptance speech, but if you can find the whole segment, I suggest watching it) and Stuart Scott gave one of the best best speeches I’ve heard in my lifetime. Drake was…singing a song about athletes cheating on their spouses called Sidepieces and it had my blood boiling. Also, purely for the humor of it all, check out this blog post from the wife of a Raven’s player who is a seriousl loony toon. I think the Westboro Baptist Church may be starting their recruiting process with her soon.

I found this article verrrry interesting because who would have thought wifi would ever make it to the Amazon? No, not that Amazon, the ACTUAL Amazon.

I love me a good graphic tee. Check out this site  called Sevenly that creates tee’s while helping others. And they’re really awesome tee’s! Look for a more in depth post about this site coming soon. For now, check out this Dreamer tee.

I’ll leave you with Sam Smith’s new album In The Lonely Hour that I cannot stop listening to!

Happy Free Slurpee Day everyone! That’s right, it’s 7/11 which means free 7-11 Slurpee’s for all!  If you don’t take advantage of this, shame on you! It’s once a year, have a slurpee! Plus it’s like kiddy sized so all you ladies “watching your figure” can splurge just this once.

Anyway, happy Friday! I took a half day from work because all of my family is in town from Toronto for my cousin’s grad party. Since most of my family lives in Canada, we really aren’t able to all get together very often anymore, what with jobs and no Christmas and Spring breaks because we’re like, old. Well, at least some of us are. But I took a half day so I could spend the day getting drunk with my aunts on Patron. I’m completely serious about this, I’ll prove it with pictures next week, stay tuned people. Snapchat friends, prepare yourself, because it seems that the only time I really feel compelled to snapchat is when I’m drunk. Or I forget to. So it’s actually a total toss up, is the suspense killing you yet?

I’ve also got a bachelorette party Saturday night, so its going to be a bear of a weekend. I’m scared. Someone send me a hangover care package for Sunday, when we’ll be doing city things with the fam and likely all want to just lay on a bench and cry/die. Send prayers. On that note, here are your weekend links!

Anthro is usually too expensive for my taste, but sometimes sale stuff ain’t so bad, like this cute mail holder. Plus it’s an extra 20% off right now with code BUZZ20, so it’s probs only like $5!

My mom sent me this awesome Kickstarter for a completely redesigned cooler and it’s The Coolest.

You in a wedding this year? Just be happy you’re not in this sociopath’s wedding! Look at this email she sent to her potential maids…cray cray!

LOFT has a 50% off ALL full price items flash sale happening, use code FLASH at checkout. Someone get me this.

Um, what? Why? I do not understand. This is NOT something I ever imagined would be a thing. And like, wouldn’t it be dark?

You can never have too many stackable bracelets, love this one from Whistles. They’ve got so much cute stuff, a lot of it pretty affordable too.

Thought bobby pins were just to secure those flyaways? Think again.

Since I posted about my summer reads earlier this week, I thought this list of the most popular books of the first half of 2014 was pretty interesting. Friggin Fault in our Stars…

And while we’re on the subject of books, the trailer for Wild is out. Looks pretty good to me, now I can’t wait to finish the book!

One more sale, Target has Black Friday in July happening, which is basically BOGO50 on everything. Get after it.

Last but not least, Emmy noms came out yesterday. Are your favorites on there? All my votes go to Breaking Bad and Fargo…and True Detective….and OITNB…and House of Cards. Maybe I watch too much TV?

Have a great weekend friends!

Hello hello, it’s finally Friday! Lucky me, I’ve got a half day. Our office seems to be a bit confused that the 4th of July is NEXT week, and that a half day may be better suited for that Thursday, rather than the Friday before, but whatever, I’ll take it. It’s Max’s birthday today (Happy Birthday Max!) so I think he’s got his heart set on some good ol’ fashion bbq tonight, which I’m 100% down with. Not sure where yet, I’ve been dying to try Green Street Smoked Meats, so maybe there, but Smoque is always a safe bet too! Then tomorrow we’ll be celebrating with friends who hopefully get him properly intoxicated since I assume once you turn 27, drinking becomes even more difficult, so nights like these come much less frequently.

You may notice that my Weekend Link image is a little different this week. I really want to make sure that all of my posts have sharing power, and the way I was formatting the images previously weren’t as sharable as I thought they could have been. Enter this new format, four little snippits from some of the links. So now you can pin that pretty image up there and then other people can find the links too, even if they’re not reading the blog. So don’t forget to pin por favor!

Chicago Reader’s Best Of  has been released. Read it, live it. (If you’re in Chicago that is. If you’re not, file it away for when you visit. If you don’t plan to visit, get outta here! Just kidding, stay, there is more non chicago-y stuff you might enjoy)

For my fellow shopaholics, ASOS has a big summer sale happening right now! So many adorable dresses up to 50% off, plus all sorts of other summery thangs!

Since we’re on the topic, Bauble Bar is also having a sitewide 20% off sale through Saturday, but they’re keeping it a secret. Use SUMMER at checkout to get the deal.

Recently I’ve been in love with Birdy this album. It’s from last year, but it’s def worth a listen, I’m willing to bet you’ll dig it too.

Another lady with killer power ballads? Adele, duh. Keep an eye out for 25 soon, without any warning!

Need a change in your space? Check out this awesome removable wallpaper from Chasing Paper.

Summer is sticky in most places. Which means braids are a godsend during these hot months. Try this twist on your everyday braid from the girls over at A Beautiful Mess.

Yogi friends, this is the bag for you. Also no, I haven’t done yoga yet even though it was a June goal, I suck real hard at accomplishing goals.

I wouldn’t much consider myself the baker in the family, my sister fills that role. But if I were said baker, I’d be making this ASAP! Toffee, give me toffee. Sidenote, ever had a toffee blizzard? Game changer people.

Ke$ha is back bitches. Homegirl is lookin’ so great on the cover of Teen Vogue, check out those freckles yo! Also speaking of freckles…she’s a beauty too!

Here’s a quick tip on how to use your AppleTV to stream Spotify through your TV speakers without mirroring. Booyah! Also, if you don’t own an AppleTV, go buy one now, best use of $99 ever.

That’s it for today, hope everyone has a kick ass weekend, I know I will since I’ll be spending it spoiling my guy!
