Link Love

happy saturday! it’s beautiful out today, so get outside and do something fun. until then, here are a few links that caught my eye throughout the week.

kate upton in the june issue of vogue. i mean, can we talk about a girl crush? lady boner? she’s a modern day marilyn without even trying. ughz. also, gimme those glasses. (both pairs)

need a new way to find a flight? check out routehappy. this new travel site helps you find flights based on a “happiness score” which is determined based on a slew of criterium such as in-flight wifi, layovertime, USB ports, leg room, you get the idea. So from there you can see your happiness score and compare prices and say, “hey, yeah, i’m going to pay an extra $40 to some in-flight wifi and a direct flight rather than having to connect.” pretty fun concept, check it out next time you’re planning a trip.

i wanna go see Mud this weekend at some point. the trailer reminds me very much of Tom & Huck meets Stand By Me. Plus one of the kids is named Neckbone, so I mean, that’s weird enough. And MM will probably be shirtless for a good portion of the film. Has anyone seen this yet?

Also want to see A Place Beyond The Pines, because, well, duh. And I kind of have a girl crush on eva mendes also. Am I revealing too much in this post? But it actually looks like a good movie, I think. rotten tomatoes critics and audience both gave it an 81%. How often do they actually agree on things? Weird.

i NEED to pick up a couple of these puppies at some point next week. stanley cupcakes?! i mean, talk about brilliant! Crumbs, I think I love you. (Go blackhawks!)

discovered this new shop called Cwonder, which I think is a mix of J.Crew and Kate Spade. Can’t wait to order some new stuff like –these! They currently have a sale going on too, 25% off all shoes and bottoms! Get after it!

This article about The Millenium Generation was VERY interesting and also kind of annoying and offensive? Unfortunately I read it in the actual magazine (yes, print isn’t completely dead), but I think you have to be a subscriber to read it online?

ok that’s all for now, time to watch the hawks crush the redwings then go enjoy this beautiful day…perhaps at the outlet mall? whoops.

10. Alabama Shakes | I Ain’t The Same
11. Ellie Goulding | Hangin’ On
12. The Cure | Friday I’m In Love

In other musical news, the Lollapalooza schedule was released today.  I’m really not sure how I’m feeling about it, unfortunately for me there are a lot of artists that I wanted to see that are of course playing at the same times as eachother. Emile Sande, Atlas Genius and Father John Misty are all at the same time. Ellie Goulding and Eric Church are at the same time. The Lumineers are directly before Mumford and Sons which means giving up a good view to see this outstanding headliner, which was the case when I saw them at their Gentleman of the Road tour last summer. And Postal Service is playing the same time as Mumford which succcks because they’re both amazing. And obviously Phoenix and The Cure are at the same time on Sunday night to close out the fest, but I saw that coming. I guess I”m going to be having to make some serious decisions, good thing I’ve got a couple months to think about it.

Tall Girls’ New Best Friend

Being almost 5’8″, I wouldn’t consider myself extra tall, but I think it’s safe to say that I’m above average height for women. I’d look up what that actual height is, but I’m positive I’m taller than 80% of the women I deal with on a daily basis so I’m gonna just go ahead and assume that I’m right. That being said, heels and wedges aren’t a huge staple in terms of my shoe collection. Flats, boots and sandals (both heel-less) are my go-to year round. Which is all fine and well, but I wanna wear heels! I wanna wear wedges! I love them, they make my legs look longer and less stumpy (yes your legs can still look stumpy when you’re tall). On the off day that I do break out the wedges or heels, this is what it looks like…

I definitely venture into the higher level of footwear on the weekends when I’m going out, but still then, call me old-fashion, I’m not a huge fan of being taller than my man. And at 6 foot (I’ll give you the half inch here Max) a 4 inch heel and big hair is going to do just that. Also, it needs to be known that I do not under any circumstances condone a kitten heel. I just can’t. So…I think I may have found a solution.

Enter the low heel wedge. I’ve seen these puppies popping up all over the place and at first I was skeptical, but the more I look at them more I fall in love with them. Just a little bit of extra length in the leg without towering over 3/4 of the office. Here’s a few of my favorites. Let me know what you think of this new trend for us tall gals. Do you have a favorite?

A Mother’s Day Gift Guide

So with Mother’s Day just around the corner, literally, it’s on Sunday, I thought I should probably start figuring out what to get my lovely mother. She’s a tough one to shop for, whenever I ask her what she wants for a birthday or christmas or in this case, mother’s day, I get the same response: oh I don’t know, anything is fine. When you literally can get her ANYTHING, it becomes a lot harder. So I decided to put together a gift guide for other potential readers with very relaxed (read: difficult) mother’s to shop for. Hopefully something below will be perfect. And if not, just buy it for yourself and write her a nicely thought out card. Just kidding, you should definitely get her something of monetary value, do you have any idea how much that woman spent on you in your lifetime? A lot. So maybe just go ahead and buy her everything in my guide to begin the payback process.

Tunes on a Tuesday No. 1

music loving friends, hello! I want to make this a regular feature (look at me, creating features on my second post, total over-reacher) so that I can share with you some of the best music that isn’t playing on repeat on the top 40’s stations. But to be clear, it’s usually the music that isn’t playing on those stations that is the best. and I say usually because there are some sporadic gems out there, exhibit A: rihanna’s new song Stay. i’m obsessed to say the least, annnd i think the video is really well done. the amount of emotions is just incredible. you seriously can’t pull yourself away from it. all things aside, girls got it goin’ on.
